1.49 billion euros in humanitarian aid for Sudan
Further humanitarian aid was mobilised at the Sudan Conference in Berlin. In addition to aid promises, a discussion of possible political steps was also on the agenda.
Berlin (d.de) – At the Sudan Conference in Berlin, the international community mobilised additional humanitarian support for the suffering population. The Federal Foreign Office reported that an additional 1.49 billion euros in humanitarian aid had been promised. The German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced that Germany would be increasing its support by more than 230 million euros.
In addition to confirming further aid, the talks focused on political steps for securing a ceasefire. The Federal Foreign Office wrote on X that the goals were “to stop the violence as quickly as possible, to facilitate comprehensive and unhindered humanitarian aid, and to realise a ceasefire”. Wadephul further stressed that: “This war concerns the whole world! And all those who have enough influence to stop the killing and the dying have a political and a moral duty to use this influence.”
The humanitarian situation remains dramatic. Around 34 million people rely on aid, according to information issued by the UN. 2.9 billion US dollars are required for funding the necessary humanitarian aid.
