Environment Minister Schneider: Present new plans
Preparations for the next World Climate Conference begin today in Bonn. Environment Minister Carsten Schneider wants furtherance of climate protection.

Bonn (dpa/d.de) - A ten-day meeting begins today in Bonn to prepare for the next World Climate Conference (COP30) to be held this November in Belem, Brazil. More than 5,000 participants are expected to attend it. These “interim negotiations” are traditionally seen as highly significant in the elaboration of joint climate targets.
Federal Minister for the Environment Carsten Schneider (photo) is calling for intensified European efforts. “Become better, act faster” is the motto right now, Schneider said before the conference. “My goal is for the European Union to present its plans by September on how we can strengthen climate protection in Europe. This means we can motivate other countries to follow suit and secure the necessary investment for the European economy” Schneider emphasised: “It’s not more climate protection that threatens prosperity, but rather too little.”
This will be the first UN Climate Change Conference since the USA announced its withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement.
