Paris (dpa) – According to a UNESCO study, Germany remains the fourth most popular destination worldwide for international students – after the US, the UK and Australia. The UN cultural organisation said in Paris that around half of all international students chose to study in Europe, North America or Australia, with twelve per cent of these opting for Germany as their study destination. The UNESCO study found that among European students studying in another European country, Germany is the most popular destination, followed by France and the Netherlands.

According to a study presented in September by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), young people from abroad cite as reasons for studying in Germany the country’s technological leadership in many fields and the availability of English-language degree programmes as well as comparatively low tuition and living costs.
