Government adopts strategy for start-ups and scale-ups
The Federal Government is looking to facilitate business start-ups, promote growth and keep innovation in Germany. The new start-up and scale-up strategy comprises around 150 measures.
Berlin (d.de) – The Federal Cabinet has adopted a new start-up and scale-up strategy. The strategy aims to improve the framework conditions for innovative companies – from start-up through to international expansion. Measures include better access to finance, less red tape and increased support for turning research findings into marketable products.
“With the Federal Government’s start-up and scale-up strategy, we are laying the foundations for the next generation of German global market leaders,” said Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche. The strategy pursues three objectives: make it easier to launch start-ups, accelerate growth and keep innovation in Germany. In order to achieve this, the Federal Government intends to reduce bureaucratic barriers, mobilise more private and public venture capital and support academic spin-offs.
The strategy also places a particular focus on future technologies such as artificial intelligence. For the first time, start-ups in the security and defence sector are also explicitly included.
According to the Federal Government, the strategy comprises around 150 measures across various federal ministries. It was developed in consultation with the start-up community, drawing on around 300 submissions and the outcomes of ten workshops. Implementation is set to begin during the current legislative term and will be accompanied by annual progress reports.
