Santa Marta (dpa) – Against the backdrop of accelerating global warming, Germany and more than 50 other countries aim to push ahead with the phase-out of fossil fuels. They met at a conference hosted by Colombia and the Netherlands in Santa Marta, Colombia.

A total of 57 countries took part in the meeting, representing around one third of global economic output. The aim was not to negotiate new climate targets, but to advance the implementation of existing commitments. Germany was represented at the conference by State Secretary Jochen Flasbarth from the Federal Environment Ministry.
