Berlin (dpa) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has sharply criticised the Iranian leadership in view of the serious human rights violations in the country. “What kind of government are you that shoots at its own citizens? Anyone who acts in this way must expect our resistance,” he said in his video podcast. Scholz was responding to Iranian threats made earlier. Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had threatened that Germany’s stance on the issue would have consequences. Scholz said: “We see the struggle for freedom and justice. And we see how Iranian drones are attacking Ukrainian cities and killing people. All of this is totally unacceptable.” He reiterated that there should be further EU sanctions against Iran.
