German technology group Bosch is continuing its success story in Asia. Turnover in the region has increased by 60% within five years, going from 7.8 billion euros in 2008 to 12.6 billion euros in 2012. Over the last ten years, the region’s share in total Bosch turnover has increased from 13% to 24%. In the medium-term, Bosch is aiming to generate 30% of its turnover in the region. The focus areas for this are India and Southeast Asia.

In addition to local manufacturing, Bosch is increasingly turning to
local development. The focus is on products tailored to the particular local market. In India for example, an ABS antilock braking system for two-wheeled vehicles has been developed. In addition, locally developed products supplement the products on offer in established markets. For example, a common rail injection system specifically developed for Indian diesel vehicles is also suitable for small vehicles in other countries. At the start of 2013, the company had about 25,000 employees in India, about 12,000 of them at the largest development centre for IT outside Germany.

Southeast Asia is currently the fastest growing market for Bosch. In 2012, turnover there increased by 30% to more than 700 million euros. The planned creation of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 will open promising new markets such as Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. Bosch has had agencies in Laos and Cambodia since 2012 and in Myanmar since April 2013. At the start of 2013, Bosch had about 5,500 employees in nine Southeast Asian nations, and the number is increasing. The software engineering centre in Vietnam, for example, is planning to employ a further 500 staff over the next three to four years.

The Bosch group is a leading global supplier of technology and services with a
total of more than 300,000 employees
and a turnover of 52.5 billion euros. The group operates in the areas of automotive engineering, industrial technology, consumer goods and energy and building
technology. ▪
