The global community set itself ambitious targets at the Climate Change Conference in Paris at the end of 2015 – now it is a
question of developing concrete plans for a sustainable and low-cost global energy transition. The Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin on 17 and 18 March 2016 provided
a key platform for this, leading energy
experts from more than 70 countries exchanging views and ideas with political, business and civil society representatives about intelligent ways to achieve greater energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable energies. Organisations such as the International Energy Agency and the International Renewable Energy Agency were represented at the forum, which was officially opened by Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as were renowned research institutes and high-ranking decision-makers from individual countries. Following the successful start of the 2015 Energy Transition Dialogue, the second meeting also generated important impetus for everyone taking part, which will help them implement the energy transition in their respective home countries. Apart from the Berlin conference, the Green Energiewende Sofa is currently touring the world to promote a more sustainable, secure and affordable energy supply.
