Hubert Lienhard, CEO of the German engineering group Voith, took over the chair of the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA) in early 2014. Lienhard follows on from the CEOs of Siemens and BASF and is the first head of a family-owned business to lead the APA, which was formed in 1993. The Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business voices the concerns of the German business community to policy-makers in Germany and the Asia-Pacific region. German businesses combine their economic interests relating to Asia in the APA. “Our aim is to strengthen trade and investment between Asia and Europe in both directions and to reduce barriers”, says Lienhard. Asia’s share in total German exports today is 14%, and its share in German foreign direct investment is 10%. Hubert Lienhard, born in 1951, was India spokesman for the APA between 2003 and 2012. ▪
