Sweden and Germany top the list of innovators

A new indicator compares the innovation strategies of the different EU member states.

Sweden and Germany. These are the two European Union countries that perform best in terms of innovation. This is the conclusion reached by the European Commission in a newly developed innovation indicator. The Indicator of Innovation Output measures the extent to which ideas from innovative sectors are able to reach the market, providing better jobs and making Europe more competitive. This makes it possible to compare the innovation strategies of the different EU member countries. What sets the top performers apart are an economy with a high share of knowledge-intensive sectors, fast-growing innovative companies, high levels of patenting and competitive exports. According to the indicator, the EU ranks fourth worldwide in terms of innovation output.
