Great architecture in a village setting
The new concert house in the Bavarian village of Blaibach has received the 2016 Grand Nike architecture prize.

The concert house in Blaibach, a small community in the Bavarian Forest with 2,000 inhabitants, has been honoured with the 2016 Grand Nike, the highest architectural prize awarded by the Association of German Architects (BDA). Munich-based architect Peter Haimerl tipped a cube on this natural hillside site, thereby placing the stage and the auditorium at an ideal angle. The minimalistic building with a granite facade fits naturally into the rural setting and together with the community centre forms the heart of an ensemble that aims to revitalise the village centre and radiate far beyond it.
