“Dogs at the Perimeter” wins a prize at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

“Dogs at the Perimeter“ is the title of the novel by Canadian author Madeleine Thien in which the protagonist remembers the horrors of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia during the 1970s. At the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2015 Madeleine Thien was awarded the Litprom Literature prize for the novel. Litprom focuses primarily on literature from Africa, Asia and Latin America. Madeleine Thien was born in Vancouver in 1974, but her parents came from Malaysia and China, emigrating to Canada in the 1960s. Thien has already taught literature in Canada, China, Germany, Nigeria, the USA and Zimbabwe. Her new novel to be published in 2016 tells the story of Chinese students who studied ­European classical music at the Shanghai Conservatoire in the 1960s.
