To love and be unable to forget
Teatron Beit Lessin and Staatstheater Karlsruhe are telling 12 moving German-Israeli love stories.
This autumn the Israeli director, playwright and author Avishai Milstein will be presenting 12 German-Israeli love stories with three Israeli and three German actors on stage at Teatron Beit Lessin in Tel Aviv and Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe. “Love Hurts” is sub-titled “To love and be unable to forget“. What is special about the production is that these love stories are real. Milstein spoke to 40 German-Israeli couples, almost all of whom he found on Facebook, and took a cross-section of them. The stories are funny, moving, and sad as well – just like in real life. The stories are performed in English, German, and Hebrew. “There are couples who to this day speak hybrid languages, for instance Hebrew peppered with German words,” Milstein says. “This is why the play is also in three languages with sub-titles, as we wanted to keep it as authentic as possible.” The coproduction is part of the programme marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and Israel.
