Maxton Hall: Return of the sensational German series

The global hit “Maxton Hall” was translated into 19 languages and is now entering its second season. What makes this German streaming series so successful.

“Well, you can’t always win”, said Ruby to James on the Lacrosse pitch. That moment is seen as one of the most iconic in “Maxton Hall – The World Between Us”. Yet the quote is in no way applicable to the series as a whole: She had won – and in some style. What began as a German youth series became a global phenomenon. “Maxton Hall” reached number 1 on Amazon Prime Video in over 120 countries and became the service’s most streamed international series. Now the German hit series is entering its second season.

So what is “Maxton Hall” about? 

The main character is the ambitious Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) who ends up at the elite private school Maxton Hall thanks to a scholarship. There she meets James Beaufort (Damian Hardung), the charming heir to a wealthy family. A complicated love story develops between the two, marked by class differences, secrets and drama. Season 2 picks up directly where the first season left off and delves deeper into the story surrounding Ruby and James. Fans can look forward to new conflicts, surprising twists and additional characters. 

The series is based on the “Save” trilogy by Mona Kasten (“Save Me”, “Save You”, “Save Us”) – a series of German novels that had already captivated many readers before being made into films. 

What makes “Maxton Hall” so successful? 

“Maxton Hall” is a global series sensation from Germany. The mix of romance, drama and coming-of-age elements strikes a chord with young viewers in particular. The series combines many of the elements needed for serious binge watching: charismatic characters, fascinating intrigue and a dash of British glamour – made in Germany.

Where was “Maxton Hall” filmed? 

The story is certainly set in Great Britain, but most of the scenes were filmed in Germany. The main filming location is the fairytale Marienburg Castle near Hannover, which, with its Gothic windows, high towers and opulent halls, provides the perfect backdrop for the elite boarding school. Some shots were also taken in London und Oxford. 

Will there be a third season of “Maxton Hall”? 

Yes – season 3 has already been confirmed. Following the international success of the first season, Prime Video gave the green light for a another sequel shortly after the first teaser for season 2 was released. Albeit there is still some uncertainty regarding exactly when season 3 will appear.
