People come to Germany from all the world’s continents. Its cosmopolitan attitude, high quality of life, stable economic situation, diverse landscape, vibrant cities and numerous cultural treasures make the country one of the most popular immigration destinations in the world.

Endless sandy beaches in the north, lonely peaks and bizarre rock formations in the south, vibrant cities, picturesque towns and unique cultural treasures – with its 16 federal states Germany is highly diverse and a popular travel destination. Located at the heart of Europe, it borders nine countries and is very easy to reach – by plane, ship, car or train. Its neighbouring countries and numerous other European states are also easy to explore from Germany: There are no border controls between a total of 26 countries.

Four seasons

The climate, with its four seasons, is very varied, but not extreme. In winter temperatures may well drop below freezing, while in summer they can rise to more than 30 degrees Celsius, perfect for cooling off in one of the many German lakes or in the sea. The culinary offerings are also diverse. Be it curry, falafel, kebabs or pizza, the food here is very international. Some restaurants offer halal or kosher food. German cuisine is naturally also popular, with its regional and seasonal recipes. Moreover, culturally Germany has a lot to offer: More than 6,500 partly exclusive collections, around 300 theatres and almost 150 professional orchestras make Germany a truly cultural nation.

High quality of life

Quality of life in Germany is high. In recent years Germany has always held one of the top spots in the United Nations Human Development Index of 187 countries. This is also due to its political structure. Germany is, as stated in its Basic Law, a republic based on a democratic and welfare constitutional state. The rule of law prevents any arbitrariness on the part of government. The German economy is one of the largest in the world. Economic conditions are currently highly stable and the labour market has also developed well in recent years. Germany is one of the most attractive locations for research and innovation. In the past, the state, industry and science invested around 80 billion euros a year in research and development. In the competition for the best ideas and finest minds, Germany occupies a very good starting position.
