Appointment of new president
Gerhard Casper, a prominent lecturer in constitutional law and knowledge manager, is to become president in residence.

Gerhard Casper, President of Stanford University from 1992 through 2000 and currently a Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, will be taking up the post of President of the American Academy in Berlin in July 2015. Born in Hamburg, Casper is considered one of the most prominent lecturers in constitutional law and a successful science manager in the United States. Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, one of the founding chairmen of the American Academy in Berlin, said on the appointment: “Gerhard Casper, whose leadership at Stanford University I greatly admired, is an inspired choice.” Casper will be the Academy’s first President-in-Residence.
