Prizeworthy. His works about 21st century disasters are vivid and accurate: Timothy Snyder, who in 2012 won the “Leipzig Book Award for European Understanding” for his book “Bloodlands – Europe between Hitler and Stalin” was awarded the “Hannah Arendt Prize for Political Thought” in Bremen. As the jury stressed, “regardless of the controversies among historians and political thinkers that the book and its author have triggered, Snyder touches on substantial issues affecting the core of the project of European unification.”
