Goal-line cameras developed by a German company were used for the first time at the FIFA World Cup.

Was it in or not? This all-important question in football was much easier to answer at this year’s World Cup than it has been in the past. For the first time, FIFA, the International Federation of Association Football, decided to use goal-line cameras in Brazil during football’s biggest tournament. They show for certain whether a goal has been scored. Not only FIFA, but also GoalControl is writing history with the cameras. Founded in 2012, this company from North Rhine-Westphalia markets the technology that was developed by a former spin-off from RWTH University Aachen. The cameras, which have been licensed by FIFA, are also to be used in other sports in the future.
