Award for courageous commitment
The Indian lawyer Henri Tiphagne has received the Human Rights Award of Amnesty International in Germany.

The Indian lawyer Henri Tiphagne has received the Human Rights Award from Amnesty International in Germany for this work on human rights. “For decades Henri Tiphagne has untiringly and courageously championed human rights. Among other things, his organisation works against torture and discrimination in India,” says Amnesty’s statement about the award. Henri Tiphagne is the founder of People’s Watch, which is considered one of the most important human rights organisations in India. For over 20 years, People’s Watch has investigated and documented human rights violations and represented victims in the courts. Amnesty International aims to strengthen the Indian human rights movement with this prize.
