Fight against hunger
Germany supports the UN World Food Programme (WFP) for refugees in Ethiopia with a further four million Euros.
Currently Ethiopia offers protection to over 700,000 refugees – more than any other African country. Very few of the refugees can feed themselves from their own resources; most of them live in camps, where they have limited opportunity to earn a living. Germany is promoting efforts to alleviate these people’s distress. The Federal Government is supporting the efforts of the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) for refugees in Ethiopia with a further four million Euros. “This contribution over several years from Germany is decisive for the WFP as it enables us to plan ahead and ensures that some of the refugees can be sustained until the end of 2018,” says John Aylieff, WFP country director in Ethiopia.
