More support for Africa
Gerd Müller, the new Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, is planning greater support for Africa. His focal points include agriculture and education
EXPANDING COLLABORATION. In December 2013, Dr. Gerd Müller was appointed Federal Development Minister. Just a few weeks later he made his first official visit to the African Union (AU) and spoke about one of his goals: more support for Africa. The Development Minister is focusing on agriculture and education and has agreed lighthouse projects in these fields. He also considers the transfer of know-how and technology to be of great importance. The AU must also be “enabled to prevent and stop violence and civil war autonomously and to a greater extent than before,” said Müller. Generally speaking, Germany would like to take on more responsibility internationally. One example of this is the larger Bundeswehr deployment in Mali.
