From Senegal to the Bundestag
The politician Karamba Diaby from Senegal has a seat in the German Bundestag.

A MINOR SENSATION. Karamba Diaby is not the first African in the German Bundestag. Werner Schuter, who was born in Tanzania, was there before the Senegalese. Diaby is also not the first person of sub-Saharan origins in the German parliament. Charles M. Huber, known to German television viewers from the popular crime series “Der Alte”, also has Senegalese roots. Nevertheless, the fact that Karamba Diaby has taken a seat in the Bundestag for the SPD is a minor sensation. He came from Senegal to the GDR on a scholarship in 1985 with practically no knowledge of German. He studied in Halle and did a doctorate in Chemistry and Geoecology. In Berlin he aims to fight for a nationwide minimum wage, the alignment of pensions between East and West and free education.
