THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RECOMMENDS. There are millions of apps, but how do you find the right one? The Federal Government also asked itself this question and is now offering the GovApps service for the general public. The new information platform presents and explains public apps and apps that are of value to the general public. The latest apps are shown on the start page. The list is divided into twelve categories (education, family, health, news, reference, navigation, politics, organizations, travel, social networks, sport and weather) and differentiates between “free” and “fee required”. In addition to this, under the “Regions” heading there are apps from individual federal states and local authorities. “I suppose GovApps is something like the town hall on the mobile Internet,” says State Secretary Cornelia Rogall-Grothe, who is patron of the project as the Federal Government’s IT commissioner. A competition for public apps has also been launched. The main winner for 2013 is the app “Customs and Travel” provided by the Federal Ministry of Finance.
