Mine clearance: For a mine-free world

Germany is actively committed to implementing a global ban on anti-personnel mines. In numerous countries the Federal Foreign Office supports projects devoted to the clearance of mines and ordnance. Internationally it is among the major donors in this field. In 2014 the Federal Foreign Office spent 13.2 million euros on mines and ordnance clearance, victims’ welfare projects and the destruction of stocks of anti-personnel mines.

Humanitarian aid For providing swift aid in emergencies

The Federal Government faces up to its responsibility. Together with its national and international partners it provides fast, efficient and expert assistance for people suffering from the impacts of natural disasters, conflicts and war.

Forging links between international protagonists

“Disasters can befall everybody, which is why prevention is a matter of concern to all of us,” says Valerie Amos, United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator (2010 – 2015). Aside from prevention, important concerns include coordinating international aid and according more attention to the victims.

Commitment: For a culture of empathy

The humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence form the basis for the work of those humanitarian organizations engaged in measures abroad, whose projects have also received funding from the Federal Government.

Refugee assistance: For a life without having to flee

Germany and the EU member states provide refuge to those whose lives are acutely threatened by conflicts and wars. In addition to receiving asylum seekers the Federal Government provides humanitarian aid to the increasing number of internally displaced persons as a result of crises and conflicts and funds relief efforts in regional states willing to receive refugees.

“To meet the needs of refugees, it is paramount we ensure permanent, profound solidarity by the international community.”
