Commitment to peace, security and stability: 70 years ago the United Nations was founded. Today 193 countries are united in the organization, which in 2001 received the Nobel peace Prize. The Federal Foreign Office and the German Society for the United Nations are now honoring the 70th anniversary with a major exhibition in the atrium of the Federal Foreign Office.

The exhibition presents the United Nations’ diverse range of issues: the commitment of the international community to human rights, humanitarian assistance, sustainable development, conflict prevention, peacekeeping and climate protection. At an interactive station, visitors have the opportunity to contribute their own thoughts, wishes, concerns and demands pertaining to the United Nations to the exhibition. True to the motto of the organization: “Welcome to the United Nations – It’s Your World”.

German commitment to the United Nations

On the Foreign Office’s Day of the Open Door in late August 2015, numerous visitors were photographed together with the United Nations logo. Selected photos are now on display at the exhibition.

The exhibits illustrate vividly facets of the history of the United Nations, such as the structure of the organization and the youth delegate program. How Germany’s role in the organization has changed is also a topic: if the country was at first divided, its commitment to the United Nations grew especially after reunification.

The exhibition 70 Years United Nations – Past, Present, Future can be seen until 18. November 2015 in the atrium of the Federal Foreign Office.
