Bundeswehr mandate for South Sudan to be extended
Germany remains committed to the UN mission UNMISS for the stabilisation of the country.

Berlin - The Federal Government has decided to extend the Bundeswehr mandate for the United Nations stabilisation mission UNMISS in South Sudan. The necessary approval of the Bundestag is considered certain. In South Sudan, despite a ceasefire, political instability, an economic crisis, the locust plague in 2020, droughts and corona, about two thirds of the 12 million inhabitants are dependent on humanitarian aid because of armed conflicts.
Germany has been participating in the UN mission in South Sudan since 2005 with individual Bundeswehr personnel in UN staffs and headquarters as well as experts. South Sudan is also a priority area for humanitarian aid: in 2020, Germany provided around 70 million euros for this purpose. (AA / deutschland.de)
