Federal Chancellor Scholz visits scene of attack in Solingen
Politicians and members of the public commemorate victims of the attack in the city centre.
Solingen (dpa) - Three days after the deadly mass knife attack in Solingen, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the city to express his condolences. Previously the Federal Chancellor had described the knife attack as a terrible crime and said it must face the full force of the law. In Solingen, Scholz is also meeting the Mayor Tim Kurzbach, the Premier of North Rhine-Westphalia Hendrik Wüst, the Deputy Premier Mona Neubaur, and NRW Minister of the Interior Herbert Reul. In a meeting later at the City Hall, politicians and members of the public will commemorate the victims of the attack in the city centre.
Three people were stabbed to death at a festival in Solingen on Friday evening. Eight people were injured, four seriously. A 26-year-old Syrian man is in custody, suspected of offences including murder and membership of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia.
