Houston (dpa/d.de) – The German men’s national football team will be beginning its World Cup campaign this evening: at 7.00 pm CEST, head coach Julian Nagelsmann’s squad will be taking on World Cup debutants Curaçao in the US city of Houston. It will be 38-year-old Nagelsmann’s first World Cup match as coach - his objective is to secure “the first three points”. Germany will also face Côte d'Ivoire and Ecuador in the group stage.

Two years after retiring, Manuel Neuer will be celebrating his comeback as the team’s goalkeeper and playing his 125th international. In addition, Eintracht Frankfurt’s World Cup newcomer Nathaniel Brown will be playing full-back. After recovering from an injury, Jamal Musiala is also on the squad: “We have complete confidence in him,” stressed Nagelsmann.
