Berlin (dpa) - Seven days ahead of the Bundestag elections, the chancellor candidates of the CDU/CSU, SPD and Greens attempted to mobilise voters in the last TV debate.  What was striking in the exchange that was broadcast on ProSieben, Sat.1 and Kabeleins was that SPD candidate Olaf Scholz repeatedly sought to align himself with the Greens and her candidate Annalena Baerbock. In the snap poll published later that evening, 42 percent named Scholz when asked who they believed had come out on top overall in the TV debate. CDU candidate Armin Laschet was in second place with 27 percent. Baerbock of the Greens came in at 25 percent. The dominating issues were the minimum wage, the Hartz IV unemployment benefit, climate protection, coronavirus and internal security.
