„Afrika kommt!“ is the name of a German industry initiative for young future leaders from Africa. Nineteen leading international companies from Germany are offering Africans the chance to work with them for a year in Germany, to develop their management skills, to improve their professional qualifications and to gather intercultural experience. The aim of the initiative, which was founded in 2008, is to support economic development in Africa south of the Sahara and to build the foundations of a network for new economic collaboration. Almost 1,700 African men and women applied in the second call for participants. The jury selected 17 young professionals for the 2010/2012 programme. The eight women and nine men from Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Rwanda, Namibia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Ivory Coast worked with companies including VW, BASF and Siemens.
