Green helpers for the household
Many appliance manufacturers have come up with energy-efficient innovations.

Good for the environment. A washing machine that automatically irons the clean laundry will probably remain a futuristic fantasy for the time being. The same applies to a dishwasher that puts the dishes back in the cupboard. Nevertheless, German manufacturers of household appliances have introduced many innovations in the past few months that will not only make our lives easier, but also protect the environment. For example, Miele has developed a solar dryer. The T 8881 S EcoComfort is connected to the house’s heating system, which in turn is connected to the solar thermal system on the roof. Energy costs are supposed to be cut by up to 60 percent, even compared to a heat-pump dryer, which is already very energy-efficient. A new dishwasher from AEG’s Pro Clean series is also very economical. It has an AutoOff function: the machine switches itself off automatically ten minutes after the wash cycle, the door opens, allowing hot steam to escape. This saves energy. In addition, the appliance uses very little water: a sensor determines how dirty the dishes are and cleans them with the necessary amount of water.
