Samsung in first place with patents
There has been a sharp increase in the number of patents registered by South Korea.
The number of patents registered at the European Patent Office (EPO) in Munich reached a new record of 266,000 in 2013. The 38 member states of the European Patent Organisation accounted for the largest share with 35 per cent. South Korea boosted the upswing with a 14-per-cent increase in its number of registrations. Samsung holds first place among individual companies with 2,833 registrations. In the country rankings, South Korea is fifth following the USA, Japan, Germany and China.
