6,000 square metres of exhibition space, 80 galleries, reading areas and seminar rooms, a bookstore, restaurant and coffee shop – all of these will be located in a former grain silo on the waterfront in Cape Town in 2016. At a place that is attractive both for tourists and locals, German manager Jochen Zeitz is planning one of the largest museums of contemporary art on the African continent, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary At Africa, in short MOCAA. The British architect Thomas Heatherwick was commissioned to design the futuristic building.

Zeitz and his South-African curator Mark Coetzee have been collecting for the Museum of Contemporary Art Africa since the turn of the millennium. As they have indicated, their main aim is to select a number of African artists who represent a region, an idea or a theme. The museum is scheduled to open in late 2016.
