New perspectives
for the European art scene

“The School of Kyiv” looks at the interconnections between the European arts scenes.

“Crisis – Order – Europe. In order
to meet this triple responsibility, we need scope for cultural exchange, but also places here at home where we
can have an ongoing debate about our relationship with the world, with other cultures, religions and traditions,” said Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in summer 2015 at the topping-out ceremony of
the Humboldt Forum in Berlin. Such a place providing scope for cultural exchange is “The School of Kyiv” – an international project in the Ukraine and Germany comprising exhibitions and an extensive accompanying programme.

The ambitious German-Ukrainian project introduces local and international contemporary artistic positions. Furthermore, “The School of Kyiv” presents the interconnections between the European art scenes of the early 20th century and the Kiev-based avant-garde artist Alexandra Exter (1882–1949), and shows their importance for the present. The exhibition project is supported by a 50,000 euro grant from the Federal Foreign Office.
