Isa Genzken at MoMa. Found objects feature in her recent works – items of everyday life which she transforms into sculptures. Some of these new objects by Isa Genzken are on show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York together with paintings, drawings, films, photographs and earlier three-dimensional works by the artist. The MoMa is exhibiting an extensive retrospective of her work, the first of its kind in the USA, until 10 March 2014. The organizers regard Genzken as one
of the most influential female artists of the past 30 years. The retrospective encompasses all the mediums she has ever chosen to work with. Many of the 150 objects have never previously been shown in the USA, where few people know
the true breadth of Genzken’s work. Isa
Genzken studied painting – for instance, with Gerhard Richter in Düsseldorf – before eventually moving to other forms of expression. She has participated in the Documenta in Kassel several times and was the artist of the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2007.
