Literary travelogue

Writer Felicitas Hoppe followed the trail of Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov.

13.01.2016

Eighty years ago, at the height of Stalin’s Reign of Terror and the Great Depression, Russian writer-duo Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov spent four months in the USA on an assignment for the newspaper Pravda. The aim of the “research trip” was to explore “what it is to be American”. In 2015, writer Felicitas Hoppe, together with artists Alexei Mestchanov and Jana Müller, began a journey following the trail of Ilf and Petrov, the stages of which can be found on the Goethe-Institut blog.
