Peace Prize for Internet critic Jaron Lanier
Jaron Lanier, computer scientist and writer, receives the 2014 Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
“Digital Maoism” or “geek religion” – the American writer, musician and computer scientist Jaron Lanier coins pithy phrases in his criticism of an over-enthusiastic belief in progress and the Internet. On 12 October 2014 he will receive the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade for his ground-breaking work. The jury is honouring “a true pioneer in the digital world – one who has always recognised the inherent risks contained in this new world with regard to each individual’s right to shape his or her own life”.
