What role do the media play in a changing Europe? Rarely before in Prix Europa competition's history has this question been so controversial. The trimedial European festival of television, radio and online productions is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2016 under the motto 'Changing Europe!' 231 nominated productions, including 36 from Germany, will be judged by 1,000 media experts during the festival week in Berlin. A production from Deutschlandradio, for example, deals with the topic 'CETA Free Trade Agreement – Gold Standard or a Case of False Labelling?' Bayerischer Rundfunk's entry is 'High-tech for the External Frontier. A radio documentary on the profiteers of European efforts to keep refugees at bay'.

Open jury groups

Prix Europa has been awarding prizes to the continent's best media productions since 1987. The aim is to map the spectrum, identify cross-border programme trends, and give quality programmes a forum. The festival differs from comparable events because of its open jury groups. After free and unbiased debates and individual rounds of voting, the winners are determined in the 13 categories and honoured at a festive prize-giving gala at Berlin's Haus des Rundfunks (Broadcasting House).

You can watch a live stream of the prize-giving ceremony from 19 hours CET on 21 October in the rbb Mediathek.
