Only three small steps separated her from Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. It was one of many highlights that Clémence Boudet experienced after checking in for her trip to Berlin. “Check in to Berlin” (#citberlin) was the name of a global campaign by Young Germany. The online platform informs young people about careers, education and lifestyles in Germany. In the run-up to the “Inspiring People” education summit, the website asked young people from all over the world to apply for the chance to act as Young
Germany Reporter. The winner would report from the event – live on social media. But first, young social media insiders had to master #citberlin challenges on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Among the over 70 applicants, 22-year-old Clémence Boudet from France put in a particularly convincing performance, which eventually enabled her to “Check in to Berlin!” Clémence is a student at Audencia Business School in Nantes. “I love the German language and am very pleased to
be able to attend events about education and language in Berlin,” said Clémence.

She accompanied the Young Germany editorial team at the event for three days. She conducted interviews and published interesting articles on social media. On the third day she was allowed to ask Foreign Minister Steinmeier her question about peace and stability. “I believe we can at least favour the path to peaceful relations by bringing people together and initiating discussion between civil societies,” answered the Federal Foreign Minister. Clémence also had discussions with lots of young people during the three days. “It was a very pleasant experience,” she said. But before she knew it, it was all over: “Goodbye and auf Wiedersehen, Clémence!” ▪
