Dancing for Parkinson’s disease

The German-Israeli project “Störung” unites science and dance. The aim: further research into Parkinson’s disease.

A German-Israeli project called Störung/Hafraah combines science and dance. The aim? Further research into Parkinson’s disease. The long-term interdisciplinary project was developed by Freiburg Theatre together with the BrainLinks-BrainTools Centre of Excellence at the University of Freiburg as well as the dance company of choreographer Yasmeen Godder in Tel Aviv and four neuroscience institutes in Israel. The project workshops were organised over several months and brought together some 50 people who live with Parkinson’s disease as well as up-and-coming scientists and internationally renowned dancers, choreographers and dramatists. The result was a unique mixture of different perspectives, approaches to work, techniques and questions. The project concluded with two two-day conferences in Tel Aviv and Freiburg in December, and the work was also captured by Israeli documentary filmmaker Maya Rothschild – resulting in
“a stirring and moving documentary”.
