At the end of August citizens can have a look behind the scenes of power. The Federal Chancellor’s Office, the Federal Press and Information Office and all 14 ministries are inviting them to visit and offering an informative programme of entertainment. Since the federal government moved from Bonn to Berlin, Open Day has established itself in the capital. In 2013 about 150,000 visitors took the opportunity of informing themselves about the work of the federal government on the spot.

Direct questions to the minister

In the Federal Chancellor’s Office, visitors can marvel in the impressive art collection at the series of Chancellor portraits. Interested citizens can put questions to politicians and talk with them: for instance, with Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen and Siegmar Gabriel at the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs. Every year there is also something for the small “state guests”. In 2013 they could get treatment for their ill stuffed animals at the Federal Ministry of Health. And at the Federal Ministry for the Environment there was a performance by an animal voice impersonator.
