One nil for the law is how some sporting competitions might end in the near future. In November 2014 the Federal Government presented the anti-doping law that is planned to come into effect in 2015. Top athletes caught using drugs could not only lose their honour, but also their freedom – they will face up to three years in prison. Criminal charges for the possession and use of performance-enhancing drugs are something new in German competitive sports. Experts consider the planned law “strict” compared to legislation in other countries. German will assume a pioneering role.
