Welcome among friends: an app makes helping easier
It has never been easier to help: Willkommen bei Freunden is an app that brings volunteers and refugee support projects together with a few clicks.
Voluntary efforts on behalf of refugees have continued unabated in 2016. Often, however, it takes a while for helpers and projects to find one another. The German Children and Youth Foundation (DKJS) and Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) have come up with an app called Willkommen bei Freunden (Welcome among friends) that aims to change that: it links volunteers and refugee support projects with a few clicks. Helpers indicate where and how they can help, and the app says which local organisations are seeking that kind of support, whether language teaching, sports courses or donations of clothing.
