If only it were so simple: “Just Saving the World” was the tongue-in-cheek title of a serious demonstration in front of the Brandenburg Gate. Simultaneously with tens of thousands all over the world, people in Berlin took to the streets for greater efforts against the global rise in temperature. The demonstrations marked the start of the special summit in New York, with which UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon aimed to give new impetus to climate policy. This is necessary, as at the climate conference in the spring of 2015 in Paris the world community is meant to agree on a follow-up pact to the Kyoto Protocol. No easy task, but Federal Minister for the Environment Barbara Hendricks sees “positive signals”, for example the “Green Climate Fund”. This is intended to help developing and emerging countries reduce emissions and tackle adaptations related to climate change. Germany has promised up to 750 million euros for the fund.
