European intelligence services
There is to be closer cooperation between European intelligence services in the battle against Islamist terrorism.

In an attempt to prevent terrorist attacks from being carried out in Europe in future, there are to be closer ties between European intelligence services. The first step was taken in the spring of 2016: a new platform was created that will allow information to be shared more quickly and easily. The platform was initiated by the European Counter Terrorism Group (CTG). Ad hoc meetings were held in the wake of the Brussels attacks in March 2016, for example. “In addition, we are planning from the summer to feed information about Jihadists who pose a threat into a joint database used by European intelligence services,” explained Hans-Georg Maassen, president of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, in an interview. The CTG draws up potential threat scenarios, for example, and organises joint analysis projects.
