German team wins Hockey World Cup
The German team won the final of the Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup that was held in Belgium and the Netherlands, and matched Pakistan’s record.
Wavre (dpa) – Head coach André Henning’s team has won the Men’s Hockey World Cup. The German national team defeated Spain 1-0 in the final in Wavre in Belgium. Michel Struthoff from Rot-Weiss Köln scored the celebrated winning goal in the 44th minute of the match.
The German team is the reigning European champion and came second at the Olympic Games, and nine of the players were also part of the squad that won the 2023 World Cup. After losing against the Spanish team 1-2 in the second round of the tournament, Germany went on to defend its title. It is the fourth time that the German men’s hockey team has won the World Cup, after 2002, 2006 and 2023. This fourth title also means that Germany has now joined Pakistan as the most successful team.
