Gdańsk (d.de/BMFTR) – Germany and Ukraine are to significantly expand their cooperation in research, technology and innovation. At the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the Ukrainian side reaffirmed this commitment by signing a joint agreement. The aim is to make science and innovation a stronger pillar of Ukraine’s reconstruction while bringing the country closer to the European Research Area.

In order to strengthen cooperation, the BMFTR and Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Gdańsk, providing the framework for closer collaboration in line with Germany’s High-Tech Agenda and Ukraine’s WINWIN strategy. The agreement envisages closer political and technical cooperation as well as new joint projects. Particular emphasis will be placed on strategic key technologies and the development of high-performing innovation ecosystems capable of supporting Ukraine’s long-term reconstruction.

Germany is regarded as Ukraine’s leading European partner in science, research and innovation. According to the BMFTR, it intends to provide more than 110 million euros in funding for this cooperation by 2029.
