Cortina d'Ampezzo (dpa) – Johannes Lochner won his first Olympic gold medal in the two-man bobsleigh event. The 35-year-old from Berchtesgaden was the clear winner at the Winter Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo. With the German bobsledders Francesco Friedrich and Adam Ammour winning silver and bronze, all three medals went to German athletes. Together with his push athlete Georg Fleischhauer, Johannes Lochner dominated all four runs, finishing 1.34 seconds ahead of Francesco Friedrich, making it the clearest victory in the Olympic two-man bobsleigh event since 1980.

The German umbrella organisation has thus continued its success story on the Olympic ice track, with at least one medal going to the German Bobsleigh, Luge, and Skeleton Federation (BSD) in every event so far. The luge team won four medals, and the skeleton team six. Including Laura Nolte’s monobob silver medal, the German bobsleigh team has so far won four medals. The two-woman event and the four-man event at the weekend will be further opportunities to add to the medal count.
