Kyiv/Berlin/Brussels (dpa) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy receives broad support from Europe this Monday for his trip to visit US President Trump in Washington. Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (photo), EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will accompany the Ukrainian to the meeting in Washington. They are joined by other European heads of state and government.

This discussion with Trump aims to end Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The Federal Government reported that it includes security guarantees, territorial aspects and continued support for Ukraine in repelling Russian aggression.

The trip is also intended as an opportunity for exchange of information with Trump after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Berlin further briefed that Germany is emphasising the objective of a peace agreement in Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Finnish President Alexander Stubb are among those who also confirmed their participation. The Europeans are seeking to prevent decisions being reached that would disadvantage Ukraine.
