Ready to spend on new players

Hamburg (dpa) - SV Hamburg are ready to sign new players after investor Klaus-Michael Kuehne said he was ready to provide around 20 million euros (22.4 million dollars), dpa and local media have learnt.

The Hamburg supervisory board decided to give the green light for new signings after a meeting with Kuehne. The cash-strapped club initially wanted to invest only after the sale of players.

Hamburg narrowly avoided relegation again in the past Bundesliga season.

New players could include West Ham United defender Havard Nordtveit and former Hamburg winger Andre Hahn who is currently at Borussia Moenchengladbach. Hamburg also want to give defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos, on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, a permanent contract.

Players Hamburg aim to sell, in order to reduce overall salaries from 56 to 48 million euros, include top earners Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Aaron Hunt.
